DNA Paternity Testing
As many as 1 in 10 people have some doubt about who their father is. Testing for paternity as early as possible will help bring peace of mind sooner, and save a child from future confusion and anxiety. We provide the answers to paternity and other life altering questions quickly, painlessly and compassionately.
Paternity Testing simply means establishing fatherhood. Everyone is born with a unique genetic blue print known as DNA. Because DNA is passed down from the mother and father to a child, DNA identification provides a conclusive way to determine biological relationships. Consequently, DNA testing has become the most accepted method to determine identity within the legal and scientific communities.
DNA testing is the most powerful parentage test available. The test will detect more than 99.9% of falsely named men and will determine probabilities of paternity which will exceed 99.9%. DNA testing also makes it possible to test a range of sample types from virtually any tissue in the body including buccal swabs, old, and dried specimens.
Collection Procedure and Scheduling
To schedule a test or receive additional information or pricing, call (518)618-1255 or e-mail us.
Upon arriving at the collection site you will have to provide the collector with positive
identification such as a driver license or birth certificate. You will then be asked to fill
out a chain of custody form and have your picture and fingerprint taken.
The technician will then perform the procedure using an oral or buccal swab to collect the
cells for testing. The technician simply rubs the inside of your cheeks with this swab and
packages it for shipment to the laboratory. The collection will take approximately 15 minutes. Results are usually received within 7 business days. Due to the use of buccal swabs, children can be tested at any age.
QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE
Q: Why can't you prove 100% that the man is the father?
A: Although very remote, it is possible that a man could match the DNA types
of the true father by chance alone. Extensive DNA testing can generate probabilities of
paternity to 99.9% and higher, but since a match by chance cannot be entirely ruled out,
the probability will never equal 100%.
Q: Are blood specimens required for testing?
A: No. Cells collected from the lining of the cheeks using a buccal or oral
swab is a convenient, non-intrusive means of collecting specimens for parentage determination.
Since the DNA content of most tissue in the body is the same, identical results will be
determined for blood or buccal swab specimens.
Q: How are paternity tests scheduled?
A: Appointments can be scheduled at Northeast Testing Upstate Inc. by calling 518-618-1255.
Full payment must be received before testing can be completed.
Q: Do Specimens have to be collected from all parties at the same time?
A: No.
Q: Is it necessary to have a court order or physician's order to have the
testing?
A: Only New York State requires a prescription or court order. Residents of other states do not need a prescription or court order.
Q: Can genetic testing distinguish between identical twins?
A: No. Identical twins share 100% of their DNA markers in common and no
genetic test can distinguish them.
Q: How long will the results take?
A: Results typically take between 7-10 business days. Expediated results are
available for an additiional charge.
Q: Can medication, drugs, or blood transfusions affect test results?
A: No, DNA tests are not affected by medication, drugs, or blood transfusions.
